Darrell Jaya-Ratnam
Director
Darrell founded DIEM analytics Ltd in 2011 after a career encompassing research within the UK Ministry of Defence, advising corporates & governments at the London office of leading strategy consultants McKinsey & Co, and a number of succesful consulting start-ups. He combined the operational analysis techniques he had developed at the MOD with strategy consulting techniques he had applied at McKinsey to develop models, simulations and decision aides that leveraged the experience and insights of stakeholders to help clients make better decisions. By being able to demonstrate how stakeholders' experiences and views have been taken into account, the techniques he developed maximised client buy-in and, hence, increased the chances of succesful implementation.
Over the last decade he has led a wide range of projects, many funded by government innovation hubs and accelerators, to demonstrate how emerging technologies can be used to enhance tactical and strategic decisions, in particular where the 'data' is sparse, where explainability is key or where a competitor is using technology to disrupt your operations.
As well as leading DIEM’s projects and capability development, he has published in the prestigious McKinsey Quarterly, the Risk Management magazine and the IET journal, has lectured on the Birkbeck College (University of London) MSc in organisational change and consulting, and sits on the UK Ministry of Defence (MOD) AI Ethics Advisory Panel.
He has a degree in Engineering from Christ’s College Cambridge and a PhD in Ballistics from the Royal Military College of Science, Cranfield University
